Poverty is a terrible reality present in this modern world. Wherever city you find yourself in, you’re sure to find a homeless man, woman or family begging in the streets.
There are many reasons for homelessness – some struggle to find a stable job that can pay their bills; others have to deal with mental issues without anyone to support them.
Even in a wealthy country like the United States, impoverished people still exist.
This viral social experiment video hoped to shed light on the struggle of these poor individuals.
The Youtube channel MoeAndET set up an experiment to see how difficult it is for adults who are down on their luck to get the attention and help they need.
At first, this social experiment appeared very cruel because it’s just two guys secretly filming a beggar in New York City.
In these screencaps, the man is largely ignored by the passers-by. Unfortunately this is a common sight in any busy street around the world.
Then the experiment takes a different approach when they introduce their kid-brother who pretended to be a homeless kid. He sat beside the homeless man.
They wanted to see how people in the street would react to a homeless kid instead of an adult.
What they recorded was a truly heartbreaking sight.
Many people were more inclined to help the kid while they continued to treat the homeless man like dirt.
This police officer, who helped the young boy, actually beat the poor man and berated him for not getting a job!
This other person actually mocked the unfortunate guy and even dumped his food all over him! And to think this man is a war veteran!
But here’s the real kicker to the story. The homeless man asked the young boy to watch his belongings. When he returned he actually bought the young boy a slice of pizza with what little money he had!
Soon after, the real purpose of this video was revealed and touched netizens all over social media.
Watch the video here:
It’s inhuman the kind of treatment the homeless experience every day. Although some people can be heartless – others like these three Youtuber brothers and the war veteran show that there is hope for impoverished people yet.
Hopefully we can all learn from their example.
