In the wee hours of June 2, many Filipinos were shocked when a gunman brought horror to one of the finest hotel casinos in the country, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
The unidentified gunman went amok and barged into the hotel’s storage room to steal P113 million worth of chips. He fired his gun multiple times inside the casino. Reports also revealed that he set tables on fire, triggering panic among the people inside.
Although the SITE Intelligence Group reported that the Islamic State (ISIS) has already claimed responsibility for the attack, PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that the “isolated” case was actually a robbery. Clarifications for this claim have yet to be released as investigations are still ongoing.
The incident left at least 36 dead and several missing.
Among the missing is 29-year-old Hazel Yongco who works as a table supervisor at Resorts World. Upon learning what was going on inside the casino, her father, Gil Yongco, immediately went there to rescue her.
Unfortunately, no one on the scene was able to lead Mr. Yongco to his daughter. According to a report released by Philippine Daily Inquirer, one of the hotel’s employees was able to see Hazel running. But when Hazel’s phone dropped and the employee attempted to pick it up, Hazel went missing behind him. Since then, no trace of Hazel has been recovered.
When Hazel’s father was unable to gain any information about his missing daughter, the Inquirer reported that he resigned himself to the fact that she may be among the casualties.
